Happy Birthday and thank you for creating World Of Solitare. You'll laugh, but when I'm stressed out, the first thing I think of, is play a quick game of 'Relaxed Golf'. It makes me slow down and allows me to think again. So you have done more than just create a place for games.

Robert, For the last 10 years, my career has taken me to many international destinations.Relaxing with one of your games has been much appreciated when wide awake on a 12 hour-off time zone, in a hotel with only one English language TV station. I add my thanks to the many previous comments.

Robert said...

Thank you EVERYONE for all the nice comments! I really love how much everyone likes the website and it brings me a lot of happiness to know that so many folks out there enjoy what I created :)

I hope you all continue to enjoy playing for years to come :)

I'm addicted!!! Can't have an online session without a visit to WoS. I wish I'd found this site years ago. It's amazing Microsoft included solitaire on machines to teach people how to use the mouse. And now we have WoS.

I like to play Russian solitaire. After your last changes, I'm not having any fun playing it. How often is there a solution to this game? It seems as though the per cent of a possible solution has gone done a lot, making it mostly frustrating instead of pleasurable.

Robert said...

@Anonymous:

As per Russian Solitaire being more difficult, I haven't made any changes in regards to shuffling or anything like that.

On World of Solitaire every hand dealt is entirely random. I do not manipulate the shuffles in any way whatsoever. That just wouldn't be cool!

Being entirely random, some hands won't be winnable and sometimes you'll have a run of bad luck :(

So it should get better once your bad luck streak runs it's course!

Some other Solitaire games are much less luck based and you can win almost 100% of the games if you are skilled enough.

Spider and FreeCell are both available and are more skill based games.

You can also try the 'Challenges' in the Solitaire menu. These deals are guaranteed to be winnable and the Easy rated ones can be a good thing to play when you feel like you need a win, although I do not have a Russian Solitaire version of challenges :(

I hope this helps :)

I love the "you win" screens. The Superb Owl is my favorite. Thanks!

Robert, I just learned that you are now over ten years of bringing pleasure into so many lives,
a gift you give daily. I and my clients thank you for accommodating my requests for some
changes as I use a different approach to solitaire to help folks focus in the midst of anxious
moments. Your caring for your users and kindness are reflected in all you have created
and when combined with your creative and technical gifts, a unique person becomes the
additional gift we all receive.

hello and congrates on 10 years... I too love solitaire as de stress...have just upgraded my operating system and since then found that in the middle of a game, I spot from the corner of my eye to the left of the screen something black that pops in and out quickly, then the game I'm playing suddenly disappears..is this a computer glitch or have I unwittingly enabled/disabled something?..any ideas what might be going on?...thanks for all the brain exercise!..

Robert said...

@Anonymous: Hrm, never heard of that happening before! It's likely something odd happening on your computer.

I'd first try out using a different web browser. Both Chrome and Firefox are great. If that doesn't fix it, then I'd make sure you computer doesn't have any sort of 'adware' or 'malware' program installed. You could try running one or more free 'cleaner' programs. Here are my personal recommendations (all free):

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware: http://www.malwarebytes.org/antimalware/

Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool: http://www.microsoft.com/security/pc-security/malware-removal.aspx

Super Anti-Spyware: http://www.superantispyware.com/

Spybot Search and Destroy: http://www.safer-networking.org/dl/

Hi Robert, thanks for your suggestions, since writing to you the sneaky 'black spot' seems to have gone away and i have been enjoying un-interupted games, I will run a cleaner program anyway. Maybe its the way I hold and move the key quickly that restarts the tab, its a mystery this technology.. appreciate your time!

Fantastic solitaire suite - the best!

Recently, the Ads have been including streamed videos, which really reduce the bandwidth of the Solitaire page so that it slows down the deal to an annoying crawl for a minute or so before the Ad may be hidden or dismissed. Is there anything that may be done to reduce the impact of these Ads?

Robert said...

@Chris Knight:

First, thanks for the comment, I'm glad you enjoy the games :)

As for the animated ads, I use a Google product to show ads on the page. Google chooses from thousands of different ads with hundreds of new ones every day. With so many ads, it's impossible for me to manually review them all and thus some slip through that are too animated or cause slowdowns. Usually Google does a pretty good job removing any ads that cause big slowdowns or have too much animation, but during the holidays a TON more ads get created and a lot more tend to slip through the cracks. Also, Google also shows different ads to different people. So when I visit the site I hardly get any animated ads, while others like yourself may be shown lots of them :(

This is why I provide the "Hide Ad" link. Clicking that, in the top right corner after the cards are dealt, totally eliminates the ad and removes any slowness the ad may have caused. It also makes more space available for cards to be larger :)

However as you mentioned, you can't hide the ad until after the first hand of cards is dealt, so that's time the ad has to cause slowness. The only way to prevent the ad from coming up at all is to block them with an ad blocker. If you choose to go this route, I recommend "uBlock Origin". It is available here:
Chrome: https://goo.gl/2Wlz4A
Firefox: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/ublock-origin/

If you are on an iOS device, I recommend an app called "Wipr" which is an ad blocker for Safari on iOS.

I hope you and others can continue to enjoy playing :)
