Challenges!

Hello!

I have added an exciting new feature to World of Solitaire: Challenges!

Challenges are pre-shuffled, numbered deals that are guaranteed to be winnable.

Each challenge is rated for difficulty: Easy, Medium or Hard.

Each time you play a specific challenge number, the same cards will be dealt in the same order. So you can keep trying a specific challenge until you find a way to solve it.

Test your skills and see how many you can solve!

Challenges can be found in the top left 'Solitaire' menu, click on 'Challenges...'.

If you are a registered player and you win a challenge with the fewest moves or shortest time, then your name will appear on that challenge entry for all to see.

Challenges are only available for a few different game types right now. If people like them, I can add more game types in the future. Also,  I can add more challenges for each game if people solve the current ones are are looking for more.

I hope you all continue to have a lot of fun playing :)

Dear Robert,
This isn't about your new challenges
feature...I just wanted to drop you a line thanking you for all your hard work. I have played solitaire for countless hours on your site, and I am one of your biggest fans.
Again, thank you so much.
Sincerely,
D'Arcy Young

Good job. I play this a lot. Your latest version... the cards are really small even if I select the largest size.

@Anonymous:

Try resetting your 'Zoom' setting. This can by done by pressing 'Control-Zero' on the keyboard (or 'Command-Zero' on the Mac) to reset it to 100%

If that does not fix it, shoot me an e-mail and we can troubleshoot further: robert@telparia.com

Hi !

I also want to thank you for all your hard work - I LOVE your site !

I also loved your new "You Win" graphics, but they're not showing anymore - just the "You Win" in pink. Are they disabled?

Again, thank you !

Lindsey

I am having trouble opening games to play. Pyramid for example below the Tutorial I can not click to open because I can't scroll to get to the play the game box.

Any ideas??
Thanks, great web page and keep up the good work.
Dave

@Anonymous/Lindsey: Head up to the Options menu and make sure 'Classic Victory Image' is not selected. That should bring back the fun new images.

@smjdave: Could you send me an e-mail so we could troubleshoot a bit more? My e-mail is: robert@telparia.com

Thank you for thousands of hours of Solitaire you have given me. In certain situations, it gets me from one minute to the next when I would otherwise not know to.

I LOVE your site and appreciate all the hard work (or is it just fun?) you've put in.
A couple of days ago my screen suddenly changed and the top is miniscule. If I hadn't been used to playing it, I'd never, ever figure out what to do because it's too small to read. The print is too small for me to even change games. Even the ad is about thumbnail size. I can't figure out how to change it back, if it even can be. Thoughts?

@Anonymous:

Regarding the minuscule top, the problem you described can usually be fixed by resetting your 'Zoom' setting.

This can by done by pressing 'Control-Zero' on the keyboard (or 'Command-Zero' on the Mac) to reset it to 100%

If that does not fix it, send me an email at robert@telparia.com and we can try some other things to get it fixed.

Hi, just wanted to say I really like the new graphics and the challenges, it makes it more enjoyable while I spend too much time playing...lol
One question, how can 'anonymous' have such quick times in all his winnings...is it his computer speed? Can't compete against that.
Thanks for all the changes,time and effort you've put into this.

Robert said...

@belgin:

The folks getting the super fast wins utilize a few tricks:
1. They disable all card animations using the 'Options' menu.
2. They use the 'Right Click' mouse button to move the cards to the Aces pile instead of double clicking as it saves a tiny amount of time.
3. They press the space bar to flip a new card over instead of moving the mouse and clicking.
4. They play the same deal several times and memorize exactly which moves to make.

I myself get lots of enjoyment from just seeing if I can complete all the challenges and leave the competition for fastest times and fewest moves to others :)

Unknown said...

Thanks for the heads up on tricks, was wondering the same as belgin...how'd they do that?! lol
The scores are interesting but like you, I enjoy the challenge of completing a game. Only one I compete with is ME! :)

Thank you for all you do, Robert xo

Hi Robert,
Thanks for the tips and tricks for faster times, will try them and see if it helps, however I'm not going to memorize the game, it's for fun.

Nice! I love the challenges. And the new graphics are sweet!

I think I spend most of my free time on WoS. Thanks for making an awesome website!

Hi there! Great job on the site! Just wanted to let you know though that after the latest update, some of the card graphics are failing to load so all you can see is a blank box with the text for the card in the corner. Just a heads up.

Robert said...

@Anonymous:

That can be quickly fixed by resetting the browser cache. You can learn how to do that here: http://www.refreshyourcache.com/

Also it should be fixable by changing to a different deck using the 'Deck' menu at the top.

Help! All of a sudden when I try to open "World of Solitaire", I get the top menu, the ad on the right and the rest is a blank page. None of the menu tabs work. Any Idea?

Fred

Some of the new "you win" pictures are a bit scary, especially the one with the dragon and others with the faces of people (court jester etc.) are kinda unnerving..Just a plain "you win" is good enough or something like waterfalls, cars anything but the pics you have now..

Robert said...

@Unknown:

You can hide the new victory images.

Go to the Options menu at the top and select "Classic Victory Image".

Starting with the next hand you deal, whenever you win the older 'You Win' message will appear instead of the new ones.

Unknown said...

Thanks, will try that..some of them are ok but some others when the new images first started scared the hell outta me (grin)..but love the game and tks again for the info

I really enjoy seeing the new Victory images. They gives extra interest.

Great website, by the way, but somewhat addictive!

Unknown said...

Good glad you like it, I'm not crazy about most of them but that's my opinion..you enjoy it..

Thanks I have played your site for a long time now, and it is the best. No fanfare, just straight playing. I like that.

Absolutely love what you created, a most excellent endeavor. One minor add on I would like to see ( I would almost bet I am not the first to suggest it) would be a pause mode. Keep up the wonderful work. Thanx "B"

Robert said...

Glad to hear everyone is still enjoying the game!

@Anonymous: A pause mode is in my top 5 list of features to add!

Anonymous said...

How the heck do you solve challenge number 28? Its driving me mad LOL

Robert said...

@Anonymous: I am working on figuring out a way to provide solutions to folks, without making it unfair to others. Stay tuned.

Unknown said...

I really dont think all games are meant to be won..there's so many I cant solve and restart and restart but no luck..oh well, on to the next game..hehehe

What happened to World of Solitaire (Turn One)? It quit working yesterday, November 25, 2015 and I notice it was updated yesterday too. I find that happens a lot when updates become available....nothing works.

Robert said...

@Anonymous: I just updated the site with what I hope is a fix for the problem. Try re-visiting http://worldofsolitaire.com

If it's still not working, would you please e-mail me at robert@telparia.com as I'd like to get some more info from you to help narrow down the issue. Thanks!

I just wanted to compliment you on your implementation of Solitaire. As an old dude, I used to play with ACTUAL CARDS! This is so much better. I prefer the old standard Klondike and only play a few times a day - it's kinda reward to myself for doing my work (writing). I'm still learning techniques and I've learned that some of the strategy sites aren't really giving good suggestions. If you have a preferred one, I love to know it. I'd like to get better and any tips are worth trying - but some stink! Anyway, Happy Birthday and kudos for doing a superb implementation of good old Solitaire!

I've been playing your solitaire games for several years now; it never gets old. Have a question -- can you link some of your colleagues' games as well? I remember going to a link that had Spades, Hearts, and the like on it -- very similar to your site. If I'm not mistaken, I was able to use the "Azzedar's Elves" deck on it.

@Jeff: The website is: http://worldofcardgames.com

I enjoyed doing the Klondike Turn One Challenges. Any idea when you'll add more?

Great site. Way too addictive.

Robert said...

@Ken:

Glad you like the challenges!

I just added 10 more Easy, 10 more Medium and 10 more Hard challenges for both Klondike Turn One and Klondike Turn Three.

Enjoy :)

I love the new feature of the automatic finish once I hit the "magic" card. Thanks for putting this great site together.
